Year to Date Calculator

Answer first: year to date (YTD) is how far you are through a year — days elapsed, days remaining, and percent complete. Use the calculator for a calendar year (from 1 January), the Australian financial year (from 1 July), or any custom year start.

What “year to date” means

Year to date is the period from the start of a defined year up to today (or any “as of” date you choose). People use it for sales reports, leave balances, project burn-down, and tax-year planning. This calculator is date-led — it counts calendar days, not dollars — so you get a clean day count and percentage through the year.

Calendar year vs Australian financial year

Year typeStartsEndsCommon uses
Calendar year1 January31 DecemberPersonal goals, international reporting, many SaaS dashboards
Australian financial year1 July30 JuneATO tax, BAS, super, most AU business reporting
Custom yearAny date you setDay before the next anniversaryContract anniversaries, visa years, project kick-offs

Worked example

If today is mid-year in an Australian financial year that started on 1 July, you are roughly halfway — about 180+ days elapsed and a similar number remaining to 30 June (exact counts depend on the date and leap days). Switch the year type to calendar year to see progress from 1 January instead. The bar above updates when you change the mode or “as of” date.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a year to date calculator?
A year to date (YTD) calculator shows how many days have elapsed since the start of a year and how many remain. This tool supports calendar year (1 January), the Australian financial year (1 July), or any custom start date.
When does the Australian financial year start?
The Australian financial year runs from 1 July to 30 June. Choose Australian financial year in the calculator to see YTD progress for the current FY.
How many days are left in the year?
Use the calculator above — it updates from today’s date (or your “as of” date). Leap years have 366 days in a calendar year; financial years still end on 30 June.
Is year to date the same as year remaining?
Year to date is days already elapsed. Days remaining is the rest of the year. This page shows both plus the percentage complete.
Does this calculate year-to-date sales or revenue?
No — this is a date calculator. It does not ingest financial figures. Use it for day counts and progress bars, then apply your own numbers in a spreadsheet or accounting tool.
